Learning Outside the Classroom
Outdoor Learning at Michaelchurch Primary School
At Michaelchurch Primary School, we are passionate about creating learning experiences that go beyond the classroom. Nestled at the foot of the stunning Black Mountains, we make the most of our beautiful surroundings to offer children dynamic and hands-on learning opportunities in nature.
Weekly Forest School Sessions
Our weekly Forest School sessions are a highlight for every child. These sessions give students the chance to explore the natural world, learn practical skills, and build confidence—all while having fun outdoors! Whether it's den building, nature crafts, or learning about local wildlife, our Forest School programme helps children develop creativity, independence, and problem-solving skills that complement their classroom work.
Enriching the Curriculum
Outdoor learning at Michaelchurch isn’t limited to the forest! We enrich the curriculum with off-site visits, local trips, and exciting events throughout the year. We also bring the world into our school, inviting guest speakers and running workshops or hosting special themed days to ensure our children are exposed to a variety of new ideas and experiences. By learning outdoors, children at Michaelchurch grow not just academically but also personally, developing valuable life skills such as resilience, teamwork, and a love for learning.
Working Towards the LOtC Mark
We are proud to be working towards achieving the Learning Outside the Classroom (LOtC) Mark, a nationally recognised award. This accreditation reflects our dedication to providing high-quality, engaging learning experiences both in and beyond the classroom.
