What is Pupil Premium?

The Pupil Premium is additional funding for publicly funded schools in England to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils and close the gap between them and their peers.

Pupil Premium funding is available to:

• Local authority maintained school, including special schools and pupil referral units
• Voluntary-sector alternative provision with local authority agreement
• Special schools not maintained by the local authority (NMSS)
• Academies and free schools, including special and AP academies

“It is for schools to decide how the Pupil Premium allocated to schools per Free School Meal pupil, is spent since they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for the individual pupils within their responsibility.” DfE Website.

Pupil premium, using additional resources from outside the School’s Budget, is intended to address the current inequalities by ensuring the funding reaches the pupils who need it most.

Please contact the school office if you’d like to discuss, in confidence, whether you may be eligible for this funding.  If eligible, the school can then register the child and claim the Pupil Premium funding that would be used to support your child.  This funding and support will then be received each year that they remain at primary school, regardless of how your circumstances change.
