Michaelchurch Escley Primary and Pre School recognises the part it has to play in building a welcoming and inclusive community. The school has signed the Schools of Sanctuary pledge to commit to creating a place of welcome for refugees and people seeking asylum.

What does this mean for Michaelchurch Primary and Pre School?
Michaelchurch wants to:

- Help create a more tolerant society by educating the children as to why people are forcibly displaced.
- Expand children’s understanding of ethnic and cultural diversity – essential for our children as we live in an area of low diversity.
Rationale
The reason we’re committed to apply to become a School of Sanctuary is because we want to build on the good work we’re already doing and embed/formalise our processes for welcoming all children and adults to our school. We also recognise that Michaelchurch lacks diversity and feel becoming a School of Sanctuary will help support and focus on these crucial areas for development.
